According to TEAMtalk, Leicester are set to allow Harry Maguire to leave the club should any potential suitor meet their £85m asking price this summer.
The centre-back had a sensational World Cup last year and has quickly become one of the most highly rated defenders in the Premier League.
It would take an almighty bid for anyone to match the Foxes’ valuation of Maguire but if they do, they’re lining up Brighton’s Lewis Dunk as his possible successor, per TEAMtalk.
They claim that the 27-year-old is at the top of Leicester’s shopping list but he could cost them a massive £40m if things are to play out as the report suggests.
Should the Midlands outfit pay that, it’ll break their record transfer fee by £11m after coughing up £29m for Islam Slimani.
With a possible transfer merry-go-round on the cards, Football FanCast writers have given their verdicts on whether Dunk would make a good replacement for Maguire.
Here’s what they said.
Luke Glanville:
“In my opinion, Lewis Dunk would be a fantastic like-for-like replacement for Harry Maguire at Leicester City should the England man depart this summer. They’re both English, they are both in the same age bracket and many would argue that they’re of similar quality. In the event of Maguire leaving the Foxes, Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t be short of a few quid to spend so wouldn’t mind that Dunk could cost his team £40m. This would be a very positive transfer for Leicester.”
Harry Sherlock:
“Dunk is a great potential replacement for Maguire. They’re both no-nonsense defenders who can marshal an entire backline. If Maguire is sold on it’ll certainly be for more than £40m, so the money will be there to bring in a like-for-like replacement. Dunk would be just that and it’d be an excellent reward for his performances since Brighton’s promotion to the Premier League.”

Jack Saville:
“I think Lewis Dunk is a quality Premier League defender but Rodgers would be a fool to spend £40m to secure his signature. It’s more or less impossible to find good value for money at a domestic rival, and the fact Dunk’s name is being mentioned in the £40m bracket is living proof of that. The Foxes will need to look further afield to land a perfect replacement for ‘slab head’.”
