Despite having landed Odion Ighalo on loan until the end of the season from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua on deadline day, it is no surprise to hear that Manchester United are targeting a new centre-forward in the summer.
According to The Times, the Red Devils have acknowledged that they made a mistake in not replacing Romelu Lukaku when he left for Serie A giants Inter last summer.
But one man it appears they will not be going for, is Lautaro Martinez. It was suggested a few months ago by Mundo Deportivo that they were interested in signing him, but The Times now claim United have ruled out a move for the Argentine, after they “balked” at his club’s asking price of £94m.

After hearing about the report, United fans took to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the situation.
Some fans of the Manchester side brought up the fact they paid £80m to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester last summer.
One fan in particular meanwhile insisted that Martinez is “far better than” Anthony Martial.
In this crazy world of transfer fees, walking away from a £94m deal may not be the right thing to do. Martinez has proven himself to be an elite goal-scorer this season, finding the back of the net 16 times across all competitions – including three goals in three games against Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona in the Champions League.
Having spent big-money on signing Harry Maguire last summer, you would think the Red Devils would acknowledge that a similar amount of money will be needed to secure another top talent.

Martinez is exactly that, so perhaps United may want to consider their stance come the end of the season.
