And it was no great surprise to see Weghorst at it again on Sunday against Poland with Netherlands lacking a killer instinct in front of goal. The Burnley man may not be the most glamorous striker in the game but there's no doubt he has the knack of scoring important goals, something that is very much appreciated by his team-mates as goalkeeper Bart Verburggen revealed after the game.

He said: "We gave him a round of applause in the locker room. He was super important. I think it is a very good strength to have as a team, that the guys on the bench can make the difference. I am very happy for Wout, for us. On to the next."
